CLINTON, N.C. — A Clinton man will spend about six years in jail for the shooting death of an acquaintance in July 2008.

Xavier Edison Moore, 24, of 169 Frank Lane, pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Bobby “Chief” Revels, of 532 Maurice Pate Lane.

Revels, 58, was found inside a mobile home in Clinton. Authorities said he had been shot four times in the head and torso.

Investigators interviewed friends of Revels and determined that he and Moore were involved in an altercation that escalated into gunfire, authorities said.

Superior Court Judge Russell J. Lanier Jr. sentenced Moore to 77 to 102 months in prison and ordered that he pay $4200.94 to the North Carolina Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund.
