Clerk assaulted in Clayton store robbery

A reward of $2,500 is offered for information that helps police arrest two suspects in an armed robbery Thursday in which a Clayton store clerk was assaulted, police said.

CLAYTON, N.C. — A reward of $2,500 is offered for information that helps police arrest two suspects in an armed robbery Thursday in which a Clayton store clerk was assaulted, police said.

Two masked men entered a Walgreens store at 11306 U.S. Highway 70 West around 12:30 a.m. Police said one man struck a clerk with the butt of a rifle and forced her to open the cash register. The men got a small, undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot north on Robertson Street.

The clerk was treated for minor injuries and released from Johnston Medical Center-Clayton, police said. None of the four other employees and customers present during the robbery were injured.

Police said they are looking for a black man in his early 20s, approximately 6 feet tall. He work a black mask, shirt and pants, along with one black glove and one white glove. He was carrying a rifle.

Police described the second man as black, in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall. He had a red bandanna on his head and a black and white bandanna covering his face. He wore a black shirt and gray pants.
