Triangle faces final stretch of a bitter cold weekend
After a day of cold holiday parades, the Triangle is in the final stretch of the bitter cold front that blew into North Carolina this weekend.
Posted — Updated"We had a cold day Saturday," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said. "Some of us staying in the 30s. Most of us climbing into the 40s, but certainly well below normal for this time of year."
While patches of wispy, thin clouds moved in during the afternoon hours on Saturday, skies will remain mostly clear throughout the night and into Sunday morning. Lower cloud cover will begin to build up in the afternoon Sunday, possibly bringing a few sprinkles around the area.
"Saturday night we'll have clear skies and another cold night with some of you getting down into the teens possibly," Wilmoth said. "We won't break any records, but it will certainly be a cold start to our Sunday and a chilly afternoon. Mostly sunny with a high of 47."
The chill will break on Monday, as the high temperature could rocket back to 60 degrees.
After a dry weekend, there's the possibility of showers on Monday and Tuesday to kick off another winter week.
