Clayton streets reopened after gas leak

— A four-block area of downtown Clayton was closed to traffic overnight Wednesday because of a gas leak.

Town officials said a utility crew accidentally cut an underground 2-inch gas main shortly before 5 p.m.

Parts of Second, Main, Front and Fayetteville streets were closed until nearly 3:30 a.m. Thursday while crews made repairs. Because the leak was underground, crews had to dig several large holes in the road to fix the problem.

There were no evacuations, because businesses in the area were closed for the day when the leak happened.

well it says "utility crew" so it might not have been the town. IT might have been another company.... either way, they might should map out the underground before they did a hole.

Oh well, not the worst thing that happned in Clayton yesterday.

I see signs that say "call before you dig...undergound pipes" seems like the town would have known to do that and get the location. Although, I do believe this is a fairly common thing. At least no one was hurt.
