— Clayton police are searching for a man who robbed a Food Lion on U.S. Highway 70 on Sunday afternoon.

The man walked into the grocery store at about 1 p.m., showed a cashier a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money, according to Clayton officials.

"He proceeded with the robbery in a very calm manner. In fact, shoppers in the store did not realize a robbery was taking place," Stacy Beard, public information officer for the Town of Clayton, said in a statement. "The employee cooperated, and the suspect then left the business."

The man is described as 35 to 40 years old, stocky and about 190 pounds with short hair. He was wearing an olive green jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-4611.

You would be surprised how bad security cameras are, most are worthless to law enforcement....and basically, because of this, there is little concern for cameras by most criminals.

WRAL never gives race details, may get blamed for profiling.

What good are security cameras when it looks down on the perps head and produces a grainy photo...probably from a 1980s type camera. Digital cameras are not that expensive.
