— Clayton police on Wednesday released a woman who they previously said tried to cash checks from a stolen purse last week.

Lindsay Danielle Lee, 21, of Selma, is no longer charged in the case and was released, authorities said.

Clayton police are still searching for a suspect after a purse was stolen from an unlocked car at East Clayton Dog Park on Glen Laurel Road last Monday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 919-553-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 919-359-8479.

Editor’s note: Clayton police said Wednesday that additional investigation of the incident led to the charges against Lee being dropped.

Wow - I wonder what the story behind this is. This apparently innocent woman had her name, photo, arrest and age plastered all over the Internet and newspapers. How horrible. Oh yeah and let's not forget she was also jailed.
