RALEIGH, N.C. — The State Board of Elections has ordered new municipal elections be held for seats on the Clayton Town Council and the Pittsboro Town Board.

In Clayton, an election will be held in February between Art Holder and Robert Lawter Jr. A mix-up with ballots at one polling place led to about 20 people who live outside Clayton voting in the Town Council election in November. Holder and Lawter were separated by four votes for one of two seats on the council.

In Pittsboro, Hugh Harrington finished six votes ahead of Michele Berger to win one of three open seats on the Town Board. Seventeen voters received incorrect ballots in the election. No date was given for the new election.
