A truck hit two boys Monday morning near Clayton High School. Both were students at the school.

School district spokeswoman Terri Sessoms said the boys, both 16, got breakfast at a McDonald's and were crossing U.S. Highway 70 Business near Robertson Street when they stepped into the path of an oncoming pick-up truck.

Clayton police identified the boys as Jackson Smith, of Candlewood Drive, and Jacob Lowell, of Short Johnson Road. Both were taken to Johnston Medical Center in Clayton. Neither boy had life-threatening injuries, according to Glen B. Allen, chief of police in Clayton.

Officer Isaiah Ruffin cited inattention on the part of both pedestrians and driver for the collision. He said no charges had been filed against the driver, Taris Lee Blalock, 62, of Buffaloe Road in Knightdale.
