Clayton considers teen curfew

Posted August 17, 2009

— Clayton could become the next Triangle town with a curfew for teens.

Members of the town council have invited public comment Monday night on a plan to forbid anyone 15 or younger from roaming the streets between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. on weekdays and between midnight and six a.m. on weekends.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at town hall, 111 E. Second St.

wake and surrounding counties should ALL have a curfew! kids don't like it? TOO BAD!

  • dewpac1 Aug 17, 2009

I'm all for it. Most decent kids are inside by then anyways.

I agree with Clayton on this, many towns and city's have this in place already and to be honest 10 at night for that age is not too early.

Good idea! Kids don not need to be on the streets.

They don't want government health care but they need somebody to tell their children when to come home? Sounds like the parents are part of the problem to.

Even the Clayton Police chief has stated that Clayton's main problems with teens occur during the unsupervised time many have between the time school is out and parents get home. The number of instances where this curfew would actually make a difference are very small, according to the chief.
I live just outside the Clayton town limits, so this really doesn't affect me, but it sounds like a solution looking for a problem.

    Can't legislate responsibility.

Clayton does not have a huge crime problem. Yes there are gangs but those people are mostly over 15. I don't see a need for this curfew. It won't do much.

mxteam44 : I think the curfew is aimed at the parents who don't keep track of their kids....sounds like you are not one of those....which is great. So many parents these days don't pay attention to what their kids are up to.

This might have to do with the shooting at Clayton Fitness this past weekend.
