With the official start of winter five weeks away, the city of Raleigh says it is prepared for snow and ice.

With the official start of winter a few weeks away, the city of Raleigh says it is prepared for snow and ice.

A spokeswoman for the city said Raleigh already has 4,000 tons of salt and 20,000 gallons of salt brine stored up for treating roads, as well as plans in place for snow and ice removal. Raleigh also has 42 trucks with salt spreaders and plows and three motor-graders for inclement weather.

The city's snow removal plan prioritizes main roads and Capital Area Transit bus routes to be treated with salt and salt brine. If snow depth is higher than 2 inches, streets will be snow plowed. CAT buses will continue to operate as much as possible.

In the event that roads are unsafe for driving, the city will notify residents over television and radio outlets.
