City of Raleigh offers $10 daycare, free cookout and showers for residents without power

They City of Raleigh on Tuesday will offer reduced-price daycare, hot showers and a free cookout to residents who are still without power as a result of Hurricane Matthew.

RALEIGH, N.C. — They City of Raleigh on Tuesday will offer reduced-price daycare, hot showers and a free cookout to residents who are still without power as a result of Hurricane Matthew.

Four community centers will open at 6 a.m. to provide hot showers and will provide daycare at a price of $10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • Jaycee Park at 2405 Wade Avenue
  • Green Road at 4201 Green Road
  • John Chavis at 505 Martin Luther King Boulevard
  • Abbots Creek at 9950 Durant Road

The following community centers will offer free hot showers Tuesday, although daycare will not be provided:

  • Marsh Creek at 3050 New Hope Road
  • Halifax at 1023 Halifax Street
  • Laurel Hills at 3808 Edwards Mill Road
  • Method at 514 Method Road
  • Millbrook Exchange at 1905 Spring Forest Road
  • Optimist at 5900 Whittier Drive
  • Roberts Park at 1300 E. Martin St
  • Tarboro Road at 121 N. Tarboro Road

Barwell Road and Marsh Creek community centers will open at 6 a.m. and all other facilities will open at 10 a.m.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, the John Chavis Community Center will host a neighborhood cookout with free hot dogs, chips and drinks. Free rides on the carousel will also be offered.
