— The delivery of the state Christmas tree closed two streets and snarled traffic in downtown Raleigh Monday morning.

Morgan and Fayetteville streets were shut down around 9 a.m. while a truck carting the tree made its way through downtown.

Some drivers said they were stuck in traffic for more than 20 minutes.

The Christmas tree was set up on the Morgan Street side of the grounds of the State Capitol building. Gov. Bev Perdue will light the tree in a ceremony at 6 p.m. Dec. 10.

    1. The "reason for the season" is to celebrate the birth of Christ, end of that conversation.
    2. I have a certain amount coming in and plan my budget around that. No one forces me to buy anything, I make that decision.
    3. Develop a attitude of gratitude in life and move forward

As a contractor that has worked for Wake County I have had to work on weekends and nights numerous times to keep from causing any inconvience. Looks like whats good for the goose isn't good for the gander

Yes! More burning lights means more coal needs to be burned to produce the energy to light the lights! WooHoo! Viva man-made global warming! Oh, wait...nevermind!

BigUNC - "I think Christmas should be cancelled this year because there are too many people out there that cannot afford to pay for gifts and they will be under a lot of pressure to buy them anyway and get into more debt which we as citizens will have to pay for in higher costs for those who default."

If you want to do that, fine.

But I wouldn't want to ruin it for everyone just because of what I wanted or thought was best.

And have you ever thought of MAKING presents? That can be real cheap - but filled with thoughtfulness.

    God bless.

    chargernut69 - "typical Mayberry planning..."

Actually, I think even Barney could have planned this better, and I know Andy could have.

    God bless.

commentor5ridesagain - "I know...my request is just as ridiculous as the posting of this story."

What's more ridiculous is to post a comment on something that you consider a non-news story.

If it isn't news to you, why waste your time posting a comment that we then have to waste our time reading?

If it ain't news to you, just move along...

    God bless.
