RALEIGH, N.C. — Award-winning chefs Ashley Christensen and Vivian Howard will be hosting live cooking demos as part of the upcoming Thrive NC event in Raleigh this spring.

The North Carolina chefs will be participating in The Chef’s Table experience, which includes a series of interactive cooking demos aimed to educate and entertain attendees. The Chef's Table is a collaboration with the James Beard Foundation Impact Programs, which are focused on promoting a sustainable food system that provides nutritious and delicious food for all.

Thrive NC, which is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina, will be held May 10-11 in City Market in downtown Raleigh.

The two-day agenda includes event like:

  • Thrive NC Summit (May 10): Experts on food systems will discuss how our communities can impact some of North Carolina’s most pressing issues, including childhood obesity, access to fresh and healthy food and ongoing food insecurity.
  • Food Festival (May 10-11): Top chefs from approximately 50 North Carolina restaurants serving food and drink samples and live music.
  • Community Service (May 11): Focusing on access to fresh and healthy food.

"We are delighted to bring the work of our JBF Impact Programs to Thrive NC, given the event’s focus on celebrating North Carolina’s rich culinary roots while initiating meaningful conversation around statewide food system challenges,” James Beard Foundation Vice President, Kris Moon, said.

Howard, who stars in A Chef’s Life on PBS and owns Chef and the Farmer in Kinston, will kick things off on the first night of Thrive NC with a live cooking demonstration on May 10. She will also be participating in the Thrive NC Summit.

Christensen, who is currently a semi-finalist for the James Beard Award for best chef in the country, will be doing a cooking demonstration on the second day of Thrive NC. The Raleigh chef, who was named the WRAL.com Voters' Choice Awards Woman of the Year last month, took home the James Beard Award for best chef in the southeast in 2014.
Tickets for the food festival are on sale now. More details can be found on the event website.
