WILSON, N.C. — A woman eating at a Waffle House in Wilson is grateful to be alive after she said a restaurant worker saved her life when she started choking on a piece of food.

In a Facebook post, Denise Baker said she was eating at the Waffle House restaurant when her phone rang. She answered the phone and took another bite of food.

That's when she started choking.

"Start choking like seriously choking can’t breathe at all kind of choking," Baker wrote.

Baker said she tried to alert other people that she was choking when her server, Jay, ran up to her and performed the Heimlich maneuver.

Jay's quick action dislodged the food, and Baker was OK.

"(It) worked perfectly as you can see I am thankfully still alive," Baker wrote.
