Chilly rain on way Tuesday

RALEIGH, N.C. — Tuesday will be cooler and, for some parts of central North Carolina, wetter than Monday's warm, sunny afternoon.

"A cold front moves through today bringing with it some hit-and-miss patches of rain," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. Those who see rain can expect it from about mid-day into the early evening.

Tuesday is the only chance for precipitation in the forecast, however. Drier air returns Wednesday under mostly sunny skies and the extended forecast has conditions that are pretty typical for late autumn in the Triangle.

Daytime highs will hover around the 60-degree mark with overnight lows just a touch above freezing. The temperature gradually warms through the week. By Saturday, clouds and sun will make outdoor activity, including the state high school football championships, attractive.
