Carole Boston Weatherford, the author of more than 40 children's books, will visit Quail Ridge Books & Music in Raleigh this week to introduce her latest book "Freedom in Congo Square."

The book, according to Quail Ridge's fantastic children's book staff, is a "vibrantly-illustrated picture book [that] introduces us to New Orleans' Congo Square, the one place slaves could gather and find some measure of freedom to sing and dance and maintain cultural traditions. With its colorful images and simple rhyme, 'Freedom' nimbly and accurately conveys the lives of slaves to young children."

Weatherford also is the author of "Freedom on the Menu," which is about the Greensboro, N.C., lunch counter sit-ins.

This event is best for ages 4 and up. It's at 5 p.m., Jan. 13.
