Sanford, N.C. — A 10-year-old boy was in critical condition after being hit by a car in Sanford Friday afternoon, police said.
Witnesses said that Gabino Figueroa ran into Tramway Road, near St. Andrew's Church Road, and the driver was unable to avoid the collision.
Gabino was airlifted to UNC Hospitals, where he was in stable but critical condition Monday afternoon. Troopers said that he had lots of broken bones and that his injuries are considered life-threatening.
Police said speed was not a factor in the wreck, and the driver will not be charged.
