"I really don't understand why McDougal Terrace is so crime ridden."

It is the projects. It is government housing. It is not where you want to be I promise.

I grew up in Durham. I turned out fine. There are still nice parts. I left quickly when I turned eighteen though.

Iamforjustice.... I am for your ideas. Can I write you in this election?

Dr. Dataclerk..I agree with you but guess what...how can parents raise good children when their parents didn't raise them well. And too many parents are kids. The nuclear household is of no more. Gang members should be stripped of all citezentry rights. Don't put them in jail where I will have to take care of them...put them out in the Arizona desert and let them fend for themselves surrounded by electric fences. No housing just maybe tents and sleep on the dirt. We make it too easy for them in these nice prisons we have.

I really don't understand why McDougal Terrace is so crime ridden. This has been for years. If people don't know how to act tear there house down. They don't deserve to live as citizens if you can't act like one.

I had a really good comment typed up about the mayor and how he said his city was safe. It got blocked. Oh well, just know that I will not raise children in durham. Not these days.

By the way, Nikkyknows, I've never understood that statement either--BUT THE MAYOR (Bill Bell) DID SAY IT AND HAS STOOD BY IT! Thus, if you come to Durham and get, "jacked", "robbed" or "shot"--you were just (or considered to be) a CRIMINAL. You should call his office, I'm sure he can explain it--but you may have to wait until (his) election time; that's about the only time he is interested in talking to ordinary people (of course you might be rich).

"I bet the kid would not have been grazed if it were in bed where it where supposed to be."

You are probably right in THIS case, EXCEPT, (1) the types of guns these criminals are using today will penetrate walls, doors and cars; (2) there have been several, but I distinctly remember one case when a mother (or guardian) was rocking her 2 yr. old on the front porch and two gang bangers were shooting at each other and hit the child in the head.
Now in these cases the idea of "having kids watched over or in side when they are supposed to be" did not and won't make a difference. We need to understand that CRIME is committed by CRIMINALS. And until and unless we can derail this criminal mentality and channel it into PRODUCTIVE behavior, we will continue to meet here on this site to blame "ineffective parenting"; guns, video games, etc. WHEN WE NEED TO BE DISCUSSING AND DEMANDING RESULTS ORIENTED CHILDREN DEVELOPMENT AND CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS. Durham is not the only town/city that has troublesome spots. It is not safe anymore for children, senior citizens and the rest of the human beings. If parents would start off raising their children in the right way, maybe the troublesome children would simply not exist. Then again you have to know how to parent. Ride around after 6 p.m. and you will find it not so unusual to see under-age children in the streets. Then we wonder why so many young people are in trouble and getting killed. Its goes back to the parents raising them and letting them get away with stuff. No disciplice. The price one has to pay. I DON'T LIKE SEEING YOUNG UNDER-AGE IN PRISON. DO YOU?
