FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Hope Mills mother was charged Thursday morning after investigators say she reported her daughter missing shortly after dropping her off at day care, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Karra Shanae Jones, 23, of 5467 Muscat Road, was charged with child endangerment, driving while impaired and misuse of the 911 communications system.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said Jones called 911 shortly before 8:30 a.m. to report her 5-year-old daughter missing. She said the girl was taken from her car while she was inside a Kangaroo convenience store at the corner of Camden and Natal roads in Fayetteville.

Another child was still in the car unharmed.

Deputies and a K-9 team began searching for the girl, who was found a short time later at a local day care center. Investigators said Jones had dropped the child off there minutes before calling 911.

Tanna also said Jones was driving under the influence while both children were in the car.
