I stopped by the Walmart on Town Drive in north Raleigh this afternoon to see the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile with my three-year-old.

And I "relished" the chance to "meat" and "ketchup" with some Go Ask Mom readers and Oscar Mayer "hotdogger" Holly Nelson, AKA Holly Diggity Holly. (Sorry ... couldn't resist. I'm done now).

A few fun facts: Nelson and her fellow hotdoggers work for a year, traveling the country in one of six Wienermobiles. Nelson and her colleague cover the southeast in "Big Bun," the name of the Wienermobile that's cruising the Triangle. They get four weeks off during the year, including a spring break next week. So the Wienermobile actually will get to stay with a local mechanic, who will give it a check-up.

This media cannot be viewed right now.

The Wienermobile is a converted Chevrolet. It has a hot dog shaped dashboard, condiment splattered carpet and a removable "bunroof." There are six mustard and ketchup colored seats, a smiling front grill and an official Wiener Jingle horn.

It stands 24 hot dogs high, stretches 60 hot dogs long and is 18 hot dogs wide.

It will continue its public visits Saturday. They're handing out Wiener Whistles, coupons, stickers and song sheets, while supplies last. Here's the schedule:

  • 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Walmart, 10050 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh
  • 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Walmart, 1001 Shiloh Glenn Dr., Morrisville.
You can follow the travels of "Big Bun" and the others on the hotdogger blog. And you can check out our pictures in this image gallery.
