I spoke with Bill & Lynda on WRAL-FM 101.5 this morning and we talked about a new way to earn cash back for buying your groceries called ibotta! For those of you who read the blog often, you have probably already seen me post about this app. For those of you who have not seen this app, I think you are going to like it!  I used it the other day to earn cash back for buying Eggos and Listerine.

Listen Now     Faye shares Ibotta deals

Obviously, first you need to download the ibotta app on their website.

Here's how it works:

1. Before shopping, choose your offers. The more you choose, the more cash back you'll earn.

2. Go Shopping. Buy your chosen products at any of the major retailers that Ibotta supports.

3. Take a photo of your receipt. We'll verify your purchases and credit your account right away.

4. Get your cash. Yes, real money, loaded onto your PayPal account or donated to any school in America.

Participating stores: Ibotta works at 14 retailers including these stores in our area: Harris Teeter, Target, Walmart, Kroger, CVS, Walgreens.

You can increase the amount of your offer by doing different (easy) activities like taking a poll, liking the company on Facebook or reading a recipe.

Bonus $5!: Once you redeem your first successful offer, you'll receive an extra $5 in your account as part of their referral program when you sign up HERE and complete your first deal. The sign-up $5 bonus is only valid through Friday, 1/11 at 12 noon. You will then have a week to process your first deal to receive the bonus in your account.

Like Savingstar.com discounts, the money does not come off at the register. It is deposited into your Paypal account. You will need a Paypal account to get the money. If you prefer, you can also donate the money to a school of your choice.

Big benefit: You can use the ibotta savings in conjunction with manufacturers coupons and savingstar.com e-coupons so you can stack a number of different savings avenues.

If you use ibotta, please share your experiences. This app does require a little extra work as far as taking pictures of the receipts but it doesn't take too long and they deposited the money into my ibotta account the next day.

You can find out even more details about the program on their website in the Help Center HERE.

lealea, my last HT receipt was really long and I was able to load both pictures so I haven;t had an issue with that. You may want to send them an e-mail to see what they suggest.

babylacy - I agree. Great idea!

Lowe's Foods is not on the iBotta app. You yave to go to their help center and request it to be added. They add according to popular demand so let's demand please!

I am having problems with long receipts, I've tried using their directions but when I try to take the 2nd picture it just closes the app...any suggestions?

Thanks for all the congratulations guys.

Nancy, you had both me and the husband laughing at the "free radical untethered" comment. LOL

I downloaded to my ipad, and I don't see cvs or harris teeter, so I guess I can't use it for those stores. Those stores were the real reason I downloaded it. Well, I guess it is time for me to go buy that smart phone.lol

smolder, Congrats on the baby! You will definitely sleep again....someday....

And then they turn into teenagers and want to sleep in ALL DAY! It's hysterical how that works.

Nakabi - I hope you get some sleep tonight. :-)

Congrats smolder13! My experience with #2 was so much easier than with #1 - in part because I was now an 'experienced' Mom and when she cried it didn't send chills up my spine trying to figure out what I wasn't doing right LOL She was easy as a result, I was less anxious and more relaxed.

Now, from what I understand, having a third is what parents have called 'critical mass' because there is always a loose one (two parents two kids managed, one free radical untethered) LOL

I don't know, we only had two :)

nakabi-the baby is due June 10th. I'm hoping this one will be a good sleeper. My son has lots of nightmares and we still have to go in his room almost every night...

FYI - the $5 bonus when you sign up with the link above is only valid through Friday, 1/11 at 12 noon.

I just spoke with Greg from ibotta about the concerns you posted. He indicated that the ipod touch 4 and the ipad 2 devices do not have the barcode scanning ability to handle certain stores which is why they are not showing up on your store lists. Most devices can process deals from most of the stores, but not all. Apparently it's an Apple thing from what he said. Smilepal - that's why you are not seeing HT or CVS on your ipod touch 4th gen. I have an Android and am able process the deals at all our area stores including HT and CVS.

You can e-mail them with additional questions or concerns through the help section on ibotta.com.
