Siler City, N.C. — A Chatham County woman faces fraud charges in connection with checks written on the account of her dead boyfriend, authorities said Monday.
Dana Brooks Scotten, 43, of 1104 12th St. in Siler City, is charged with attempting to obtain property by false pretense, identity theft, possession of counterfeit instrument and attempted uttering, all felonies. She was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
Authorities said Scotten's boyfriend died March 15, and she was trying to cash checks at a Walmart in Siler City three days later by forging his name.
