— Chatham County commissioners voted Monday evening in favor of a countywide ballot letting residents decide the fate of liquor-by-the-drink.

The commissioners asked the Chatham County Board of Elections to put the issue on the ballot within the next 120 days.

The only places in Chatham County that have liquor-by-the-drink are Fearrington Village, which was authorized by special state legislation, and a few specific facilities.

I cannot believe in this day and age this even exists??? Does that mean I can't go bar hopping in Chatham now? Do they even have ABC stores? I still can't believe there are alcohol restrictions on Sunday mornings - that is sure a blue law from prohibition days. I will drink to this and will assume it will pass by a big majority - who in the world would oppose being able to buy a mixed drink? I mean if you object to it, you would not drink anyway - so why put your antiquated/unrealistic beliefs on the rest of the world?

I'm not sure whether I will vote for or against liquor by the drink, but I am glad that it's coming to a vote. In fact, I'll drink to it.
