Chatham road closed by large sinkhole scheduled to reopen in July
After nearly six months, a Chatham County road shut down by a large sinkhole is scheduled to reopen in early July.

State Department of Transportation officials said Thursday that Lystra Road, which has been shut down since Jan. 18, should be open to traffic again by July 8.
Work on the road has been repeatedly delayed by the size of the project and weather since old pipes under the road initially gave way during the winter.
The project required crews to excavate and replace two 60-inch culvert pipes under the road. They were replaced with a 12-foot diameter aluminum pipe.
A 16-inch underground water line owned by Chatham County was also relocated before crews could begin rebuilding the road, which crosses over a portion of Jordan Lake.
