— A Chatham County man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Thursday in connection with the January 2006 strangling death of his girlfriend.

Peter Matson was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the strangling death of Karen Crawford.

At the time, Matson told authorities that he last saw Crawford just before midnight on NewYear's Eve and that he did not know what happened to her because he had taken a bottle of sleeping pills.
