A Chatham County man was arrested on charges of sexual misconduct that occurred of at least a five-year period, investigators said Tuesday.

<b>PITTSBORO, N.C.</b> — A Chatham County man was arrested on charges of sexual misconduct that occurred over at least a five-year period, investigators said Tuesday.

Bernard Ryan Jr., 60, of 1740 Elmer Road in Bonlee, was arrested following a two-month investigation involving sexual assaults involving two children.

The investigation started after Chatham County sheriff's deputies received complaints from the victims' family members.

Ryan was arrested last week on 16 counts of first-degree sexual offense on a child under the age of 13 and also on 16 counts of indecent liberties with a child.

He was being held in the Chatham County jail without bond pending a District Court appearance on July 11.
