Chatham man charged with sexual assault

A Chatham County man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in front of a child, the sheriff's office announced Wednesday.

GULF, N.C. — A Chatham County man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in front of a child, the sheriff's office announced Wednesday.

Antonio Headen, 28, of 862 Thrift Road in Gulf, faces charges of second-degree sexual offense, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, interfering with emergency communications and communicating threats.

Headen was placed in the Chatham County jail without bond. His first court date was set for March 7.

Investigators said that the victim reported the sexual assault on Tuesday.

At the time, Headen was serving probation for an April 2010 conviction for carrying a concealed weapon, state Department of Correction records show. He was also convicted of felony delivering or selling drugs in 2004.
