Chase in Fayetteville ends in arrest of serial offender

A woman called police to report that Darius Deandre Porter, 24, was trying to get into her house at 987 Wayside Drive. The caller said Porter was wanted by police and that he could be carrying a gun.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man led Fayetteville police on a chase by car and on foot Monday before his arrest.

A woman called police to report that Darius Deandre Porter, 24, was trying to get into her house at 987 Wayside Drive. The caller said Porter was wanted by police and that he could be carrying a gun.

When officers arrived, Porter fled fled in a gold sedan, hit a car in the parking lot at 71st High School, kept driving and later jumped out of the car on Raeford Road and ran.

Police caught him in a nearby neighborhood. They charged him with fleeing to elude and multiple traffic violations, including hit-and-run.

A search of his record revealed Porter was wanted on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a female. His criminal record dates to 2004 and includes arrests for possession of stolen goods, driving without a license and domestic violence.
