Suspicious package removed from CMPD headquarters

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Headquarters in uptown was evacuated Tuesday after a suspicious package was discovered inside the building.

Police say the threat was called in around 4:30 p.m. CMPD tweeted just before 5 p.m. that a suspicious package was found, prompting the evacuation.


CMPD Captain Mike Campagna said that the package was investigated by a K9 unit, removed from the building by a bomb squad robot and secured in a container where it will be taken to a remote location and rendered safe. Campagna was unable to confirm any of the contents of the package Tuesday evening.

    So, was it called in or not?? The story says it was, but CMPD's twitter says it was not.
