Charges filed in fatal Durham collision

Police on Tuesday charged a driver in connection with a fatal collision a week ago on Stadium Drive in Durham.

DURHAM, N.C. — Police on Tuesday charged a driver in connection with a fatal collision a week ago on Stadium Drive in Durham.

Amina Baker, 17, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to yield in the Sept. 2 collision that killed Rubia Hernandez Portillo.

Portillo, 30, of Durham, died after being thrown from her overturned minivan in the collision, which occurred near the intersection of Horton Road.

A man in the van with Portillo was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and Baker was not injured, police said.
