RALEIGH, N.C. — A Broughton senior remains in the hospital three weeks after a crash that injured her and three friends.

Jane Fountain, 18, was in good condition Friday at UNC Hospitals. Her friends, Anne Crone, 17, Tessa Jones, 17, and Grace Barnard, 17, are all recovering from injuries of varying degrees of seriousness after the wreck Aug. 24 on N.C. Highway 4, south of Littleton.

Troopers said Crone, who was driving, ran off the road to the right and over-corrected, causing the vehicle to flip several times. She is expected to be charged with careless and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

The three passengers – Fountain, Jones and Barnard – could face charges since none was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
