ZEBULON, N.C. — A Wake County sheriff's deputy was arrested while at work Monday on charges he filed a fraudulent income tax return overstating his withholding by about 10 times what it should have been, according to the warrant for his arrest.

Marc Fellner, 40, of 1242 Braemar Highland Drive in Zebulon, has been a deputy sheriff since 2010, a county government spokesperson said. He was suspended without pay after the charge against him surfaced.

Fellner filed tax returns for 2011, 2012 and 2013, claiming much more than he was due in each year, according to the warrant.

He is charged with obtaining property under false pretenses and was being held on $30,000 bond.
