SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A woman who started her day Thursday as a visitor at Johnston Correctional Center in Smithfield ended it as a guest of the state at the Johnston County Jail.

Tammy Amaon, spokesman for the sheriff's office, said Valenica Dawn Williams, 39, of Burlington, was charged with six drug-related offenses after she was found with what appears to be marijuana and cocaine during a visit to an inmate at the prison.

Amaon said Williams had four bags in her pants pockets. One bag contained suspected cocaine and the others suspected marijuana. She was taken to the jail, where she was under $300,000 bond Friday.
