Charge: Former Halifax coach sent inappropriate picture to child

Posted April 9, 2012

— A former volunteer basketball coach at Northwest Halifax High School faces a new accusation that he sent an inappropriate picture to a child.

Erick Tyson Williams, 28, of 8525 N.C. Highway 903, was charged Monday with one count of disseminating obscene material to a minor under age 16.

Investigators with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said they uncovered evidence of the picture while investigating the original charges against Williams.

He was arrested last Thursday on three three counts of indecent liberties with students. Investigators said he engaged in sexual misconduct with three students – two 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old – in one incident in December.

Williams worked with the junior varsity boys basketball team but was not a teacher at the school, according to school officials. Parents of the alleged victims brought their concerns to school leaders in January, and Williams has been banned from campus ever since, a school system spokesperson said.

Williams was being held under a $8,000 total bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 2.

They say, “A child shall lead the way”. As I read the stories that are coming out of Halifax County Public Schools, we see there are problems with teachers allegedly having misappropriations with female students. In the last two years, we have seen three occasions where male teachers have been reported in the news: (Archie McLeod- watching porn movies with students; Joe Edmondson- taking indecent liberties with two female students but received a reduced sentence from felony to misdemeanor; Eric Williams- recent charge of indecent liberties with female students). So are there any more cases out there and who are we to blame? Can we say leadership? Let’s take a look at the history of Halifax County Schools. In the last two years, this school system have been in the news from sexual misconduct to Judge Manning and the Leandro case. However, Halifax County Schools knew of many incidents but swept them under the rug. Such as back in February 2010, an arts teacher abruptly resigned d

"Williams worked with the junior varsity boys basketball team but was not a teacher at the school, according to school officials." What difference does it make if he was a teacher or not - HE HIRED BY THE SCHOOL SYSTEM AND WAS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS

People like this guy and so many others that have been in the spotlight lately, should face capital punishment. It should also be made a public showing, just like they did in the old days. If you don't want to hang until dead with the public watching, don't commit the crime. When this country started feeling bad for the perverts, it all went downhill fast. "Oh but it's not Johnny's fault. He had a hard life growing up. Let's cut him a break and spend millions of dollars to end up with an older pervert named Johnny."

Obviously these folks need to be locked up, but we as parents have got to do a better job of protecting our children.... It will mean giving up a lot of 'things'. One parent will work while the other keeps both eyes on the children... These criminals are everywhere. They see us caught up in the system of having more stuff. They are just picking off our children one by one. We have all the warning we need!

So, in other words, when Jimmy Shimmy found dad's Playboy stash sometime in the 4th of 5th grade, and called all his friends to come over, if that had happened today, I guess Mr Shimmy would be arrested and labelled a pervert. Shame on him!

Not sure what the rest of you think, but if the technology had been here 2000 years ago, there would have been pervs sending pictures. Remember what the oldest profession in the world is, anyone? Anyone?

Sick sick sick and every day I see another write up of another and another. Punishment is not strong enough to scare these people. A little jail time is nothing to them. They get what they want in jail just like they do in the real world! Something needs to be done completely different. Surgery, cut it off on the first time offense!
