CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Users of Chapel Hill's public transit system might experience slight schedule delays because of a 5K run this weekend.

Chapel Hill Transit said Thursday that customers should allow extra travel time from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday because some streets will be closed temporarily for the Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education race.

Every attempt will be made to maintain the schedules, officials said.

The 5K event is in memory of Eve Carson, who was the student body president at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill when she was shot and killed near the campus on March 5, 2008.

Two men were charged in the crime. One pleaded guilty earlier this year, and the second is expected to go on trial the week of Nov. 28.
