Chapel Hill police search for missing 12-year-old

— Police on Tuesday asked for the public's help in finding a 12-year-old boy who has been missing for a day.

Simon Bruckert was last seen at about 3 p.m. Monday in the area of Whole Foods on South Elliot Road in Chapel Hill, police said.

Simon is described as white, 4 feet 7 inches tall and approximately 95 pounds. He has dark brown eyes and dark hair and was last seen wearing a brown jacket with cream and orange stripes, brown cargo pants and brown shoes.

Anyone who has seen the boy or has information about his whereabouts is asked to call Chapel Hill police at 919-968-2760.

    Has an Amber alert been issued? Have not heard anything....

    I thought the same thing but an Amber Alert is only issued when they fear the child has been abducted. Not sure why it makes a difference because if he's missing how would you know he was "not" abducted?

    I can't imagine my 12 year old being gone overnight and not knowing where he is. Hope is is found soon and safe.
