Chapel Hill Motorcyclist Killed in Crash

The driver of the motorcycle, Giuseppina Maria Finazzo, 22, of Chapel Hill, was traveling east on N.C. Highway 54 when she lost control, police said.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A Chapel Hill woman died Wednesday afternoon when her motorcycle hit a car on N.C. Highway 54 near Parkridge Road, police said.

The driver of the motorcycle, Giuseppina Maria Finazzo, 22, of Chapel Hill, was traveling east on N.C. 54 at about 3 p.m. when she lost control of the it, police said.

The motorcycle crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a westbound 2005 Honda Accord driven by Jasmine Schwartz, 37, of Durham.

Finazzo was pronounced dead at the scene. Several people stopped and attempted to provide medical assistance.

Finazzo was wearing a helmet, according to investigators. Schwartz was not injured.

No charges had been filed. The accident slowed traffic on N.C. 54 for more than two hours.
