Chapel Hill hosts free events for teens this week

Chapel Hill's teen week includes an open mic night

Teens in Chapel Hill have a week's worth of free activities ahead of them.

The town will present its second annual Chapel Hill Teen Week, which runs Monday to Saturday (May 19 to May 24). It all happens at the Street Scene Teen Center, which is found under the post office at 179 E. Franklin St. Now in its 29th year, Street Scene is the only teen center in Chapel Hill.

The programs start at 6 p.m. All are free and include free food. Here's the schedule: 

Monday, May 19 - Game Night
Tuesday, May 20 - Film Screening and Discussion: Fruitvale Station
Wednesday, May 21 - Zumba and Yoga Night
Thursday, May 22 - Improv Comedy Night
Friday, May 23 - Open Mic Night and Battle of the Beats

The week wraps up on Saturday with Youth Fest starting at 6 p.m., Saturday, at the Youth Community Project Space, 115 W. Main St., in Carrboro next to the PTA Thrift Shop. That festival includes a craft fair, live DJ, information booths highlighting opportunities with local organizations and more free food.
