Chapel Hill driver crashes into utility poles, knocks out power

Chapel Hill police arrested a person suspected of driving while impaired who crashed into several utility poles, knocking out power to more than 2,000 Orange County residents on Dec. 29, 2013.

— Chapel Hill police arrested a person suspected of driving while impaired Sunday morning who crashed into several utility poles, knocking out power to more than 2,000 Orange County residents.

Police declined to release the name of the driver, who was not injured. The crash happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. near Legion and Ephesus Church roads.

Various utilities services in the area were disrupted by the damage, including power, phone, cable and Internet services, police said. Power was expected to be restored for all customers by late Sunday afternoon.

    @outhousecat - Public Information Lt. Josh Mecimore says 23-year-old Franklin Dalina Goncalves was charged with Driving While Impaired after losing control of his vehicle just three tenths of a mile from his residence.
