Chapel Hill counselor wins $1 million in NC lottery
Linda Hammock scratched off a $20 lottery ticket to reveal a $1 million prize.
Posted — UpdatedCHAPEL HILL, N.C. — An addiction counselor from Chapel Hill is North Carolina’s latest millionaire.
Linda Hammock scratched off a $20 lottery ticket, which she purchased at Calvander Food Mart on Dairyland Road in Chapel Hill, to reveal a $1 million prize.
“I was just in a state of disbelief,” Hammock said Thursday in a statement from the North Carolina Education Lottery. “It feels pretty amazing.”
Hammock opted for a lump sum over annuity payments. She collected $415,206 after state and federal tax withholdings.
Lottery officials said there are still four prizes to be claimed in the $120 Million Cash Game that made Hammock a winner. As of Thursday afternoon, there was one $3 million top prize, another $1 million and two $100,000 prizes unclaimed.
