HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Chapel Hill Town Councilman Lee Storrow pleaded guilty Thursday to driving while impaired.

Lee Walkup Storrow, 26, of 208 Barclay Road, was pulled over on Aug. 26 by an officer who said Storrow's Toyota Prius was speeding on Municipal Drive near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to an arrest report.

The officer said Storrow appeared to be intoxicated, so he administered a breath-alcohol test, which came back 0.16, which is twice the level at which a driver is considered impaired under North Carolina law.

As part of a plea agreement, a speeding charge against Storrow will be dismissed. He will be sentenced Nov. 17, but he has already agreed to attend an alcohol assessment course.

"I'm sorry for my actions. I let myself, my supporters and my community down," Storrow said in an email to WRAL News. "This has really brought clear focus to me that I'm not only an elected official but a role model, and I'm ready to make better decisions going forward."

Storrow is seeking re-election to the Town Council in November.
