Chapel Hill city bus engulfed in flames

Posted December 14, 2010

— A Chapel Hill city bus burst into flames Tuesday morning the near busy intersection of North Columbia and East Franklin streets, according to a fire department dispatcher and witnesses.

Chapel Hill Fire Department authorities said the fire, which was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., was under control within six minutes. The five passengers on board the bus got off safely and were uninjured, authorities said.

The cause of the fire was a mechanical failure, authorities said.

This comment was never posted, but I'll try again; please note the excessive use of puns for comedic effect:

Wow, who knew this would become such a hot topic? Talk about flashpoint issues; this has inflamed a firestorm of controversy, ever since it was hot off the presses. But its getting a little heated, what with all the inflammatory posts. And I can understand how you might get fired up about a forum like this; I mean where there's smoke there's fire. But it's about one Holocaust post away from an all-out flame war.

Really, guys, there's no reason to get all hot-under-the-collar. This isn't the hot button article you think it is.

So let's not pour fuel on the fire. We're not matchstick men; and there are enough hotheads around as it is. Let's simmer down.

And for my part, I hope nobody gets fired over this.
