Chapel Hill carjacking suspects caught
Two Durham men have been charged in connection with a carjacking that happened in Chapel Hill, police said Tuesday.
Posted — UpdatedMarcus Dontae Carpenter, 21, of Holloway Street, and Mark Troy Smith, 19, of North Duke Street, were charged with one count each of larceny of a motor vehicle, common law robbery and assault inflicting serious bodily injury, according to Chapel Hill police. The charges are all felonies.
Police said the carjacking happened about 4:20 p.m. Monday on Gristmill Lane. A victim was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not provide further details about the incident.
The suspects were each held in the Orange County jail under a $20,000 secured bond.
