Cemetery offers reward for stolen vases

Posted September 29, 2008

— River View Memorial Gardens in Spring Lake is offering a reward for clues in the case of some stolen vases.

Owner Ray Adcock is joining with some family members of the deceased to offer $1,500 for information about who might have taken the vases from headstones there.

Adcock said about 70 of the vases, valued at $200 each, were removed from the cemetery last week.

Police suspect the vases were taken for their resale value as scrap metal.

We are one of the victims of this crime. I saved for a year to be able to honor my father by getting a grave marker with the vase. It was only a few months old. Unfortunately my mother discovered the theft before we read about here. She was understandably distraught. My heartache comes not from having to now pay again to replace the vase, but from knowing that such a base act caused my mother pain. But I do believe in karma, and I honestly pray that God have mercy on the thief because he or she will have a price to pay that is much greater than anything the courts can require.

Any scrap metal dealer with half a brain should know someone trying to sell a load of these items stole them and should call the law, and if they do not they should go to jail for buying stolen property.
