JC Raulston Arboretum's annual Raulston Blooms, a celebration of gardens, spring and nature activities, is this Saturday at the west Raleigh destination.

The event runs nearly all day - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - and includes a bunch of activities for kids and families, along with shopping, garden activities and information for home gardeners.

Some of the highlights: Face and henna painting; meet the bugs; a tree climbing demonstrations with N.C. State horticulture students; garden crafts and hands-on science activities for kids; and a parade of children's nature masks. Food trucks will be there with concessions. You also can pick up some of N.C. State's Howling Cow ice cream.

Raulston's website has all of the details. I love wandering around this place with my kids! Admission is free for members, $5 for nonmembers and $10 per family. Raulston Arboretum, part of N.C. State, is at 4415 Beryl Rd., Raleigh.
