JC Raulston Arboretum will celebrate gardens and everything they contain - from the blooms to the bugs - this Saturday with its fifth annual Raulston Blooms.

The event is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at the arboretum, which is at 4415 Beryl Rd., near the State Fairgrounds. Tickets are $10 for families and $5 for individuals. The day includes a variety of activities for all ages.

There will be garden and nature programs; outdoor games; and plants and garden decor for sale. NC State Entomology Graduate Student Association will be there with information about bugs and bees. And there will be a chicken or two to pet. You can bring your own picnic or buy something from on-site food trucks and NC State's Howling Cow ice cream.

Visitors also will get a chance to cast a ballot in the 17th annual Birdhouse Competition, with categories for kids to adults.
