— The athletic director at Cedar Ridge High School in Orange County is suspended with pay from his duties, a school district spokesman said Saturday.

James Pappas is a coach, physical education teacher and director of athletics at the school. His suspension was effective Nov. 9, spokesman Michael Gilbert said.

Gilbert did not elaborate on the reason for Pappas' suspension, saying only that a confidential personnel matter was under review by the school system.

Pappas has been an employee of Orange County schools for nine years.

Coach Pappas is the best, I sincerely hope he don't lose his job, he does everything for those teenagers no matter the race.

Please tell the rest of the story. The comment was a non-issue until the young man did not make the basketball team that Pappas coaches. That said, it could not of happened to a nicer guy.

Comedian Kat Williams said it best.."White America understand this, if you can not understand what its like being a tiger in a Zoo, I don't know how you ever going to understand what's its like to be a African American in America.

Since WRAL did not post the whole story...? I will.

Jim Pappas is the athletic director and head basketball coach at Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

Pappas has been suspended with pay while administrators sort out the details of a very ill-advised comment Pappas made to a 15 year old student at the school.

Coach Pappas [who is white] happened by while student Hunter Cameron [who is black] was doing chin-ups. Cameron said something to the coach about how long he could hand from the bar.

And then, in a moment that Pappas would surely love to take back, he responded by saying “Its better to be hanging from the bar than hanging from a noose” another version of what coach Pappas said was “hanging from the bar than hanging from a tree.”"
