Caught on camera: Snake catches catfish at Falls Lake

Posted October 13, 2015

Just bought an angler kayak off Craigslist. Went to Six Forks boat ramp and dropped in. 30 min. Into fishing this snake swam right passed me carrying a huge catfish. I posted pics and videos on FB and several friends said I should submit it into the news. Here are YouTube links to my videos.

Rolesville fisherman Jason Dickerson has a story to tell after a recent fishing trip to Falls Lake.

Dickerson says he was testing out a new kayak when he noticed a snake swim right past him carrying a catfish.

Shortly after, the snake dragged the fish onto a rock nearby. Dickerson sent video of the encounter to WRAL News.

Well arent you clever? the question related to the size of his catch, the fact that snakes usually swallow prey head first to avoid getting bitten and to avoid barbs on fish as Sarcoid noted.

this snake looks like he got in over his head - much like your trying to be clever.

It's a water snake, and yes, they eat fish.

I can't tell from the picture, but I think it's a brown water snake.

Isn't that a copperhead? Looks just like one.

That's a might BIG fish for such a small snake.

I'd be surprised if he is able to swallow whole. Catfish have some Nasty Barbs on their backs and sides.
I've been stabbed more than once, and have ended up with Nasty infections in my fingers that take weeks to heal. Guess we'll never know who won this battle.

No. He had it stuffed and mounted on his wall. That's what snakes do you know, collect trophies.
