RALEIGH, N.C. — A cat who walked for miles to return to a family who abandoned him, only to be rejected again, has found a happy ending.

According to the SPCA of Wake County, a cat named Toby was given by his owners to another family, but although Toby’s family no longer wanted him, he longed to return.

The cat walked 12 miles to return to the family who had given him away, but when he arrived, the family brought Toby to an area shelter and asked staff members to euthanize him.

The shelter contacted the SPCA, which took Toby in and promised to find him a new home.

On Monday, the Wake SPCA said Toby was adopted by a new family, where he lives with a cat sibling and two children.
