Cary woman accused of strangling husband may take plea deal
A Cary wife who confessed to detectives that she had strangled her husband last year could be taking a plea deal in the case.

Dottie Delaney Amtey, 62, is charged with murder in the May 9, 2013, death of her husband, Sharad Ramchandraro Amtey, 77. According to search warrants, she told police detectives who arrived at the couple’s home on Carbon Hill Court that she had strangled him following a disagreement while they were in their upstairs bedroom.
She told detectives her husband had numerous health problems.
During a hearing Thursday in Wake County Superior Court, attorneys said they wanted more time to work out a plea deal.
“It’s the state’s theory that the assault by the defendant caused him to be in such a state that it caused him to die at the time,” Wake County Assistant District Attorney Howard Cummings said. “He was in such a poor state (of health), he might have died the next day.”
